Iona is P&O’s newest and Britain’s largest and most environmentally conscious cruise line. It is powered by liquefied natural gas, a clean-burning fossil fuel that meets new maritime rules on harmful emissions. The cruise ship can hold up to 5200 guests and is 344m in length. Designers Jestico & Whiles called upon Protocol to supply furniture for the Grand Atrium which is at the heart of Iona. This special space was designed to draw the outside in whilst offering spectacular views of the seascape.
When providing contract furniture to cruise lines and the marine market, it’s important to account for unpredictable movement, harsh weather conditions, space limitations and weight restrictions. All furniture models supplied by Protocol to the P&O cruise ship had to also follow strict International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations.
